Deepak Chopra was born and raised in Delhi, India. The son of a prominent cardiologist, he attended one of India's most prestigious medical schools to embark on a career of Western medicine. After graduating, he moved to the United States and completed residencies in internal medicine and endocrinology. He taught at Tufts University and Boston University Schools of Medicine, became Chief of Staff at New England Memorial Hospital and established a large private practice in Boston. However, during this time, despite his apparent success, he noticed a growing lack of self-fulfilment and the nagging question, " Am I doing all I can for my patients?"
It was these doubts which led him to Ayurveda - the 6,OOO year old science of healing from his homeland.
Dr. Chopra immediately realised that here was a system of health care that actually treated the whole person - a system whose guiding principle is that the mind exerts the deepest influence on the body. Today, interest in Ayurveda is spreading around the world. In 1992, Dr. Chopra was appointed to the Ad Hoc Panel on Alternative Medicine at the National Institute of Health. In 1993, he became the Executive Director of the Sharp Institute for Human Potential and Mind/Body Medicine. In 1996, he established the Chopra Centre for Well Being, Infinite Possibilities International in La Jolla, California.
As the world's leading authority on the Mind/Body Connection, Dr. Chopra travels widely giving lectures and seminars and has appeared on major television and radio shows including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live and many PBS programmes. His books, including Creating Health, Return of the Rishi, Quantum Healing, Perfect Health, Unconditional Life, The Return of Merlin, Creating Affluence, Journey into Healing, Perfect Weight, Boundless Energy, Perfect Digestion, Restful Sleep and Overcoming Addictions have been translated into more than 25 languages. Four of his books: Ageless Body, Timeless Mind, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, The Way of the Wizard and The Path to Love have been on The New York Times' Best Seller List.
Dr. Chopra beleives that anyone can achieve perfect health, total well-being, boundless bliss and live a long life. Ayurveda, the 6,OOO-year-old system of healing from the East, has a simple approach. The word "Ayurveda" is Sanskrit. "Ayur" means "Life" and "Veda" means "Knowledge" or "Science. " Literally , Ayurveda means "knowledge of life" or, "the science of prolonging life." Ayurveda teaches that the onlv thing you need in order to enjoy good health and boundless bliss is balance in your life.
